Socioemotional skills or abilities are the behaviors and knowledge that we develop when we interact with other people. We use them to express feelings, opinions, and other attitudes.

Working on these characteristics is of utmost importance given that they allow us to relate with others in a peaceful and assertive manner. Hence, they allow us to interact with groups and find our place in society.
These skills go beyond the aforementioned. They are also closely related to individual traits such as self-awareness, self-control, empathy, solidarity, cooperation, and decision-making

The main socioemotional skills according to the OECD are:

  • Task performance
  • Emotional regulation
  • Collaboration
  • Open-mindedness
  • Engaging with others

Even though socio-emotional competencies can be learned and perfected at any age, it’s particularly important to address them in school. This allows us to process these learnings and implement them throughout life.
