How to Improve Your School’s Social-Emotional Learning Strategy

The benefits of working to address the social-emotional needs of students go beyond the school, as they lead students to responsible participation in civic life and commit them to their own life projects. Therefore, strategies to strengthen SEL must be effective, well-planned, and executed quickly.

To work on and promote a healthy learning environment, there are different activities that educators can do that will address the social-emotional needs of the students. In this sense, a software like BRAVE UP! can make this a lot easier, allowing counselors to not only be able to tackle bullying but also get to know the needs of students on a deeper level.

The Importance of Social-emotional Learning

Each person is unique and only manages to interrelate adequately when they adapt to others, different situations, and contexts. Promoting a healthy school environment requires first and foremost to promote respect for the rules of the establishment, acceptance of differences, and valuing commonalities such as space, tasks, and common responsibilities or available resources.

For a school to successfully promote social-emotional learning, a high degree of commitment among the different figures that make up an educational institution (administration, educators, and students) is necessary. If all these parties are interested in their well-being, then children and young people will be able to reflect on the consequences of their actions.

It is essential to perceive the strategy related to social-emotional learning, not only as a simple analysis but as a pedagogical practice to which we are all committed. In this way, we can promote values, communication, and reflection on the experiences of the community.

The benefits of best practices on social-emotional learning are multiple. For example, establishing emotional regulation routes, healthy and effective habits, and promoting emotional education and empathy towards others. All this leads to functional individuals for the development of society.

Extensive confinement due to the pandemic and the return to face-to-face classes are some of the major factors that have influenced the need to include social-emotional learning strategies in schools.

It is necessary to act quickly and with conviction in order to reverse the social havoc left by the pandemic.

This is why we came up with a solution to promote a healthy school environment. Our tool allows counselors to map the social relationships of students and hence to understand which students are getting along well and which students are being victims of bullying.
