Besides Twitch, What Other Live Streaming Platforms are Teenagers Using?

Streaming platforms have become more widely used since the pandemic. Twitch, the most popular and highly successful streaming platform, has seen record-breaking exponential growth in its number of users for the past three years. The platform’s success has led to increased competition within its industry.

Streaming platforms striving to surpass Twitch in popularity and number of users include features such as innovative ways of subscription and interaction, systems where users can trade points for rewards, multi-million dollar contracts for streamers and benefits for viewers, among others.

What other streaming platforms exist besides Twitch?

YouTube Gaming: This app was launched this past year and unlike the YouTube we all know and have used since the mid 2000s, this platform is used solely for video game streaming. Google launched Youtube Gaming for streamers to play online and share content with their viewers through a platform with a rather simple interface, allowing it to grow exponentially in popularity and user base.

FaceBook Gaming: just like the previous example, this app was created by an existing social media platform seeking to adapt to a more current context. FaceBook Gaming is a platform focused on high-definition live streaming. Few ads, 4K resolution, and easy accessibility through a mobile device or PC pose a threat to Twitch’s popularity.

Instagram Live: In this case, this feature on the Instagram platform is not dedicated solely to video game streaming: streamers have the opportunity to discuss several topics outside the video game world, an advantage the other platforms previously mentioned lack.

TikTok: the platform’s boom started during the pandemic when people would film themselves completing challenges during quarantine. However, TikTok is no longer a platform for posting 15-second videos, it now counts with a live streaming option many of its content creators use frequently. Its simple interface makes it easy for both streamers and viewers to use.
